If you do a search for homeschool curriculum on the internet you will have a large number of resources to choose from. So how do you know which ones to choose? The most important thing to keep in mind when choosing your curriculum package is does it teach with all three learning styles in mind.  The sad fact is that most books or packages teach primarily to the auditory learners. Most experts will agree that only about 20% of the population fall into this category. For this reason it is very important that you choose wisely. As we learn more about how the brain learns and processes input we can apply this in our teaching to best benefit the schooling of each child.

So in researching the choices make sure that each book has plenty of pictures, graphs and colorful charts for the 50-60% of the visual learners. Don’t forget the 20-30% of kinesthetic learners either. Books that have “hands on” project ideas in them are best for this group. Also make good use of interactive computer programs as well. Good ones such as Glencoe McGraw Hill’s science series incorporate a lot of auditory and visual input. You are also using your hands when working with the keyboard this helps out the kinesthetic as well.

Whatever your final choice is please try to keep in mind the individual brain of each child. Their brains are as unique as their fingerprint. It would be sad to assume that works well for one child will be sufficient for all.
